Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official commented the incident made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
